Irving, TX, August 26, 2010 –Salesmanship Club Charitable Golf of Dallas, host organization of the HP Byron Nelson Championship, announced today that the 2010 Championship raised $4.8 million for local children and families, bringing the total raised since the event’s inception to more than $116 million.

“We are extremely grateful to our title sponsor, HP, for their continued dedication to our greater cause and to our sponsors and volunteers whose support and hard work has brightened the futures of thousands of local children and families,” said 2010 Tournament Chairman George Conant. “The tremendous need for our charity’s services has never been greater, and it motivates us to push harder and reach further.”

Funds generated from the Championship benefit Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers, a nonprofit organization that provides education and therapy for at-risk children and their families in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. With 8,498 people served in 2009 alone, the demand for the services provided by SCYFC is indisputable. The Salesmanship Club provides the majority of SCYFC’s operating budget, primarily through the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Hunter Mahan. File photo by George Walker for DFWsportsonlineHunter Mahan shot a bogey-free final-round 64 to win the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational by two strokes after trailing by three entering the final round for his third career PGA TOUR victory. The three-stroke comeback victory equals the largest come-from-behind win in the tournament’s 12-year history (Tiger Woods, 2009). All three of Mahan’s PGA TOUR wins have occurred when trailing after three rounds.
Mahan collects 550 FedExCup points with his victory to move in to the top 10 in the standings with just two weeks remaining for players to earn their place in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.
Mahan began the back nine of Saturday’s third round at 2-under-par for the tournament. A back-nine 31 on
Saturday, combined with a front-nine 30 for Sunday’s final round moved the Oklahoma State University graduate up the leaderboard.
The 64 by Mahan is the lowest final-round score by a winner in tournament history.
With the win, Mahan becomes just the third American to win the Bridgestone Invitational, joining Tiger Woods (1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009) and Stewart Cink (2004), and first to claim a World Golf Championships event in 2010. Mahan is 28 years, two months and 22 days old.

Carrying the largest 54-hole lead (4 strokes) into the final round of a British Open since Tiger Woods led by six at St. Andrews in 2000, Louis Oosthuizen carded a final-round 1-under 71 to move to 16-under 272 and a seven-stroke win over Lee Westwood (70).  Oosthuizen opened the week with a 65 – the lowest opening score by an eventual British Open winner.  His score increased by two each day (65-67-69-71) but it was still plenty to record his first Major win.  Prior to this week, Oosthuizen had just one round in the 60s in 18 previous rounds in Major Championships, a second-round 69 en route to a missed cut at the 2006 British Open. Prior to a missed cut at the 2010 Masters, he won the annual Par-3 Contest at the Augusta National Golf Club.  Louis Oosthuizen’s seven-stroke win is the largest in a Major Championship since Tiger Woods won the 2000 British Open by eights strokes. It is the largest margin by a player not named Tiger Woods since Jack
Nicklaus won the 1980 PGA Championship by seven strokes over Andy Bean.
