Irving Tennis Classic Battles Rain In Round 1

IRVING, TX – Rain forced delays in Wednesday’s scheduled matches, however all singles matches were contested. The doubles matches have been rescheduled for Thursday.

The featured night match saw Frenchman Jeremy Chardy easily handle Italian qualifier Marco Cecchinato, 6-3, 6-2 in just under 1 hour. Chardy, seeded #1 as a wildcard, won 80% of his service points and 47% of his return points.

3rd seed Benjamin Becker of Germany defeated Farrukh Dustov of Uzbekistan, 6-3, 6-2. Becker, a Baylor alum, captured NCAA singles title and helped Baylor to its first team title in 2004 (d. UCLA). Becker resides in Dallas and is known for beating Agassi in his last career match at the 2006 US Open.
