Legends Upset Vipers

FRISCO, TEX — The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), broke an eight-game win streak of the defending-champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers tonight with a 125-116 victory. The Legends improved to 5-2 setting new season-highs in points, rebounds and assists.

The Legends took the lead early in the first quarter and, behind the powerful offensive combination of both starters and the bench, managed to contain the first-place Vipers for four quarters. The lead changed three times in the first quarter but the Legends took control with just over four minutes to go and held the advantage to the final buzzer. The Legends saw a five-point lead going into the first and increased it to 18 at the half. Devin Ebanks found his hot spot in the third, posting 24 and leading the Legends to a 24-point lead to go into the final 12 minutes. The defending-champs fought their way back, coming within five late in the fourth but falling short for the first time this season 125-116.

Ebanks put up 34 points in the second half and 43 on the night, combined with 14 boards to be the game’s leading scorer and rebounder. Terrel Harris added 24 points and 9 assists while Micheal Eric and Sammy Yeager came off the bench to combine for 31. The Vipers had five players in double-digits with James Johnson and Robert Covington each posting double-doubles. Johnson led the Vipers in scoring with 24 closely followed by Covington with 23.
