Local Star Kiara Perry Signs To Play Basketball At SMU

DALLAS (SMU) – Kiara Perry, a Duncanville, Texas native, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s basketball at SMU next season. Perry, a 5-10 guard, led Duncanville to the University Interscholastic League State Championship, and the Pantherettes advanced to the regional semifinals during her sophomore year.

“We are extremely excited about signing Kiara,” head coach Rhonda Rompola exclaimed. “Kiara is ranked as one of the top guards in the state. She is a proven winner and comes from a program with a long history of success. She helped lead her team last year to 5A state championship. She is a strong explosive guard who is great in transition, can rebound and plays great defense. Kiara will add size and quickness to our team and will be able to come in and make an immediate impact.”

Perry was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 5A All-State team after averaging 11.1 points per game with 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.4 assists. She pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in the state championship game win over Dekaney last season. She is a two-time all-district and academic all-district, and was named Co-Best Offensive Player at Duncanville.

She scored 16 points with four rebounds in the first game this season. Perry is the daughter of Donnell Perry and Kennya Redmond, and has one brother, Donnell, Jr.
