Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge from his 2012 arrest in College Station, the Eagle of Bryan-College Station reported.

Manziel was initially charged with three misdemeanors after fighting with another man in June of 2012. He was charged with disorderly conduct, possession of the fake ID and failure to identify himself to police.

Manziel pleaded guilty to the failure to identify charge. He agreed to pay the maximum $2,000 fine, $232 in court costs and spend two days in jail. However, the judge ruled that Manziel already served the jail time when he was arrested.

“He took responsibility for his actions that night and is ready to put what happened that night behind him,” said Manziel’s attorney, Cam Reynolds.

Manziel and a friend were walking home on June 29, 2012 when the friend said a racial slur to a 47-year-old man. The man confronted the Manziel’s friend and a fight ensued, according to a police report.

Manziel was initially suspended for the 2012 season following the arrest and he planned

to transfer to another school. However, Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin helped overturn the suspension and Manziel went on to win the Heisman Trophy as a freshman.

Manziel left the 2013 Manning Passing Academy a day early Sunday because of an apparent illness. He was serving the camp as a college coach/counselor. He missed assigned meetings and practice sessions because of the illness, camp officials said.

Some earlier internet reports stated that Manziel was sent home by Archie Manning because of “partying” but camp officials said those reports were not accurate.

ESPN.com reported that Manziel has apologized to the Aggies coaching staff. He was told to be honest about why left the Manning Academy. He apologized privately to camp officials for not being present, according to the report.

Manziel, 20, will be a third-year sophomore this coming season. He is scheduled to speak at SEC media days on Wednesday.
