Mavericks Win In Double OT

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Portland Trailblazers 97-94 in double overtime Saturday night at the American Airlines Center.  It was the Mavericks’ first double-overtime game since 12/9/08.  The Mavericks have now won 22 of the last 29 regular-season matchups with the Blazers. The home team has won the last five meetings dating back to the 2010-11 regular season.

Shawn Marion posted his fourth double-double of the season (396th career) with 14 points and a season-high-tying 12 rebounds in 40 minutes. The Mavericks improved to 11-1 this season when Marion scores 13-plus points in a game.  Brendan Haywood pulled down 10 boards to go along with his seven points and two blocks.

Dirk Nowitzki posted his 12th 20-point game of the season with 20 points and nine rebounds. He finished one rebound shy of his third double-double. Jason Terry (19), Delonte West (10) and Lamar Odom (10) all scored in double figures off the Mavericks’ bench.

Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge forced overtime with a jumper with 12.0 seconds remaining (tied the game at 81). He scored 29 points in regulation, with 15 of his 29 coming in the fourth quarter. Dirk Nowitzki missed a jumper at the buzzer that could have won it for Dallas in regulation. Aldridge also forced double-overtime with a jumper with 23.9 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. Nowitzki had another opportunity to win the game for Dallas in overtime, but could not connect on a baseline jumper. Nowitzki put the Mavericks ahead by four (97-93) in double-overtime however, with a 15-foot fadeaway with 16.9 seconds left on the clock.

The Mavericks’ next game is vs. the L.A. Clippers on Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. CT
