Mavs Add Mayo To Mix

The Dallas Mavericks are not through with free agency just yet. On Tuesday, the Mavericks signed Memphis free agent O.J. Mayo to a multiyear deal to become the team’s starting shooting guard.

Mayo was the third pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. A prodigy from the USC, Mayo brought his basketball talents to the Memphis Grizzlies in a strong way averaging 15.2 points per game in his four years with the Grizzlies. He averaged 12.6 points last season after dropping to a backup role.

The Mavericks hope to make Mayo their starting shooting guard in what is quickly turning into an entirely different Mavericks team. With their newest free agency acquisitions, the Mavericks seem to be focusing on creating a team that is both athletic and able to rebound the basketball, something that doomed the Mavericks last season as they lost to the much more athletic Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Mavericks still have room for a few more players in this free agency that has been more beneficial to the Mavericks than most could have imagined. With the rumors of acquiring C.J. Miles and resigning combo guard Delonte West lurking, one can only assume that the Mavericks still have more work to do in free agency.
