With 30 games left to go in the season, the Dallas Mavericks seemed rejuvenated as they took on the Orlando Magic in their first game after the All-Star break. The Mavericks won the game 111-96.

Dalllas had a hot start to the game scoring 42 points in just the first quarter. The Mavericks led the game until late in the third quarter when the Magic took a one point lead. A three point shot by Vince Carter to end the third quarter put Dallas back in the lead as they led 83-82 going into the fourth quarter.

The Mavericks were able to do something that they struggled with for most of the season, finish the game. Strong plays from forwards Brendan Wright and Shawn Marion helped create a lead Orlando had no chance of coming back from.

“You’ve got to get traction and get stops to be the kind of team we want to be. In the fourth quarter we showed we can do it,” said Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, “Now we’ve got to bring it to the whole game and be able to sustain it. That’s a challenge we’re going to keep embracing.”

Guard MIke James was a key for the Mavericks as he scored seven of the fourth quarter points to put the game away. James finished 12 points in the win. Shawn Marion led the Mavericks with 17 points and 8 rebounds as Dallas wins their fourth win in the last five games.

The Mavericks hope to extend their streak in their run for the playoffs on Friday when they take on the New Orleans Hornets. Tip-off is in New Orleans at 7:00 p.m.
