Mavs Continue Summer League Play

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the New Orleans Hornets in the Las Vegas Summer League play on Friday. The Mavericks are now 3-1 in the season.

Small forward Jae Crowder was the leader of the Mavericks in today’s game. He finished with 18 points, three assists and two steals. The second round draft pick may serve to play the backup role to forward Shawn Marion next season. Maverick’s Dominique Jones played a key role in the win scoring 16 points along with nine assists. Dominique Jones has served as the veteran influence of the summer league team averaging 20.3 points,5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists.

The New Orleans Hornets were without their two star draft picks Austin Rivers and Anthony Davis. Shooting guard Xavier Henry was the leading scorer for the Hornets scoring 12 points off of 5-for-8 shooting. Henry averages 10 points and 4.3 rebounds in the season.

The Hornets showed promise as they led the game in rebounds with 36 total rebounds. This is a stat that will surely continue to improve once guard Anthony Davis is installed in the lineup.

The Mavericks had a great night shooting 47.6 percent in the game. They showed dominance over the Hornets in the second half when they went on a 13-0 run which helped create a 19 point lead in the fourth quarter.

The Mavericks will hope to improve their record when they take on the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday at UNLV’s Thomas and Mack Center. Tip off is at 3:00 p.m.
