The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Houston Rockets 112-108 on Wednesday. Dallas takes the series 3-1 against Houston.

Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo had a double-double against the Rockets finishing the game with 13 points and a career-high 12 assists. This was a game that Mayo wanted to make sure to win following the Maverick’s blowout loss to the Rockets on Sunday.

“After what happened in Houston, it was embarrassing, as a man, as a player, and as a Dallas Maverick,” said Mayo. “We really wanted to come in here and show our fans that we are a much better squad. It was a great game and a lot of fun.”

Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki had 23 points in this highly competitive game scoring crucial baskets to keep the Rockets from gaining momentum. Guards Shawn Marion had a spectacular night scoring 23 points and recording his 1,618th steal of his career, breaking the tie for 25th place in all time steals.

“Shawn [Marion] had a great all-around game,” said Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, “We needed his points early and throughout the whole game he did a tremendous job on Harden. Harden had a lot of points, but at the end of the game Shawn was the guy who got the key stops.”

The Mavericks were able to close out the game on a 10-4 run proving not only to themselves but other playoff contenders that they have the ability to finish the game. They will need to take their contending spirit on the road as they play their next four games away from the American Airlines Center.

The Mavericks look get back playoff hopes when they take on the Detroit Pistons on Friday. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.
