The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 117-114 in overtime on Friday. The game resembled the epic matchup from last year’s playoffs as both teams battled hard to the final minute.

With 2.3 seconds left in the game, O.J. Mayo made a three pointer to tie the game at 105 and send it to overtime. In overtime, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant scored 9 of the teams final 12 points including an inside jumpshot to give the Thunder a 116-114 edge in the game. Durant finished the game with a career high of 52 points.

The Mavericks had a chance to two chances in the final 16 seconds to keep the game going. A three point shot by newly acquired Mike James bounced off the rim with 3.9 seconds left in the game. After the Thunder’s Russell Westbrook only made 1 of 2 free throw, Vince Carter missed a highly contested three point shot to tie the game with 2.7 seconds left in the game. Dallas is now 1-8 in games that go into overtime.

The Mavericks fought hard against the team with the NBA’s best record. The loss snaps a four game win streak for Dallas as they have finally started to find their rhythm. Vince Carter led the Mavericks off the bench with a season-high 29 points. Dirk Nowitzki and O.J. Mayo contributed 18 points each in a strong effort despite the loss.

The Mavericks hope to start a new streak as they continue to fight to get back into the playoffs. Dallas takes on the Orlando Magic on Sunday. Tip-off is in Orlando at 6:00 p.m.
