The Dallas Maverick’s woes continue as they lose to the Utah Jazz 100-94. The Mavericks controlled most of the game until the time when it really counted, the final six minutes of the game. Dallas has lost their third straight game after starting out the New Year with a win.

The Mavericks had an 86-80 lead in the game with 6:20 left until a 13-0 run by the Jazz left Dallas in a seven point deficit. Gordon Hayward of the Jazz led the run scoring five of the final points for Utah. Hayward finished with 27 points, five assists and six rebounds in the win.

“Hayward had a great game. He hurt us all night long. He is a very athletic player. He is very skilled and he understands how to play. He got us time and time again,” said Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, “The 3’s at the end of the first half were big because we had a lead. There were a few plays down the stretch where he hit a shot or got his hand on the ball or something. All those things add up.”

Dallas continued to struggle in the fourth quarter shooting 31.3 percent and scoring just 14 points in the fourth quarter. Dirk Nowitzki had his second consecutive game with at least 20 points despite the loss. He finished the game with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Mavericks are now 1-7 since Nowitzki’s return to the team.

The Mavericks look to improve their record as they head to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers. Tip off is on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.
