Mavs Lose To Hawks

The Dallas Mavericks fell to the Atlanta Hawks 105-101 Monday night at the American Airlines Center.  Atlanta opened the game on a 10-0 run and led the entire first half.

Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki tallied a team-high 24 points (8-14 FGs, 3-4 3FGs, 5-6 FTs) to go along with seven rebounds, two steals and one block in 36 minutes against Atlanta on Monday. It his fourth game with 20-plus points this season, and his second-highest scoring game of the year (26 at Portland 1/29). One of Nowitzki’s team-high seven boards came on the offensive end. He is now tied with Mark Aguirre (1,259) for second place on the Mavericks’ all-time offensive rebounding list. James Donaldson is Dallas’ all-time leader with 1,296 offensive boards. Nowitzki went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc against Atlanta on Monday. His third trey of the game at the 6.4-second mark of the fourth quarter was the 1,300th triple of his career. He became the 29th player in NBA history with at least 1,300 triples (he’s shot 1,300-of-3,423, .380, from deep for his career).

Dallas point guard Darren Collison registered his third double-double of the season (24th career) with 14 points, five rebounds and a game-high 10 assists in 33 minutes.

Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo recorded 19 points (9-20 FGs, 1-3 3FGs) in 38 minutes. Thirteen of his 19 came in the first half. Mayo scored 19-plus points for the fifth time in his last six games.

Big man Brandan Wright went 5-of-6 from the field for the Mavs and contributed 11 points off the bench. It was his 13th double-digit scoring game of the season.

Jae Crowder gave the Mavericks their first lead of the game with a 20-foot jumper at the 11:10 mark of the fourth quarter that put Dallas up 84-82.

Hawks forward Josh Smith tallied a game-high 26 points (10-15 FGs, 4-5 3FGs, 2-4 FTs) to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes for Atlanta in the win.

The Mavericks’ next game is vs. Sacramento on Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. CT
