Mavs lose to Spurs 97-91

The Dallas Mavericks lost at home to the San Antonio Spurs 97-91 Friday night.  With the win, the Spurs improved to 24-10 on the road. They are now tied with Dallas for the best road record in the NBA.

Dallas outrebounded San Antonio 25-16 in the first half. But the Mavericks committed 11 first-half turnovers for 14 San Antonio points. The Spurs turned it over only three times in the opening 24 minutes (for two Dallas points). The Mavericks totaled 19 turnovers in the game, for 25 San Antonio points. The Spurs finished with 13 turnovers (for 12 Dallas points).

Dirk Nowitzki finished one rebound shy of his fourth straight double-double with 23 points (10-16 FGs, 3-3 FTs) and nine boards. He extended his streak of consecutive free throws made to 56. It’s the longest streak in the NBA this season (Steve Nash made 48 straight from 12/15/10-1/12/11).

Shawn Marion led Dallas with 13 points (6-8 FGs, 1-2 FTs) and five boards before intermission, but did not play in the second half due to a right wrist injury. Despite not playing the second half, he’s still averaging 18.4 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game over the last five games. He’s shot 61.8 percent (42-of-68) from the floor in that span.

Jason Terry (19), J.J. Barea (13) and Marion (13) all scored in double figures off the Mavericks’ bench.

The Mavericks host Golden State tomorrow at the American Airlines Center.
