Mavs win over Lakers

The Dallas Mavericks snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 27-14 after 41 games with a 109-100 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks were also 27-14 at the halfway point of the season in 2009-10. It had been the first time the Mavs lost six straight since 2/29/00-3/9/00.  Dallas trailed by eight (62-54), but used a 36-15 run beginning at the 7:40 mark of the third quarter through the 9:05 mark of the fourth period to take a 90-77 advantage en route to the win.

Mavericks guard Jason Kidd recorded a season-high 21 points (8-12 FGs, 5-8 3FGs) and added 10 assists in 35 minutes. It marked his sixth double-double of the season. Kidd registered all 21 of his points through three quarters of play. He went scoreless in the previous game at Detroit (1/17) but dished out a game-high 13 assists against the Pistons.

Mavericks forward Sasha Pavlovic, who was signed to a 10-day contract by Dallas on Jan. 10, made his first start for the Mavs on Wednesday. He totaled 11 points (5-7 FGs, 1-3 3FGs) in the game. He recorded nine points in his previous four games combined. Pavlovic broke his nose in the second quarter of the game at Detroit (1/17) but did return in the second half.

Mavericks guard Jason Terry came off the bench to tally 15 first-half points on 6-of-8 shooting. He registered 22 points (9-15 FGs, 4-6 3FGs) and seven assists for the game.

Mavericks forward Shawn Marion came off the bench to record a team-high-tying 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Seventeen of his points came after intermission.

Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki played in his third game since suffering a sprained right knee at Oklahoma City (12/27/10) that sidelined him for nine games. He managed 14 points and eight boards in 37 minutes.
