Miles Austin Out Against Chargers

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin missed his third straight day of practice Friday and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game at the San Diego Chargers.

Rookie Terrance Williams is slated to start in Austin’s place opposite Dez Bryant. Austin left last week’s victory over the St. Louis Rams in the third quarter with the injury.

Ironically, Williams’ final game for Baylor came at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium in a 49-19 victory over UCLA in the Holiday Bowl. Williams has five receptions for 60 yards this season.

–DE DeMarcus Ware returned to practice on Thursday and Friday after sitting out Wednesday nursing a stinger. He practiced on a limited basis Friday and is listed as probable.

He has had been taken out of each of the last two games against the

Chiefs and the Rams because of stingers.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said they are trying to limit Ware’s contract in practice during the week in an effort to manage the issue. He has been able to play in every game so far.

Garrett’s admits it’s a frustrating problem because there is no guarantee it when or if it will arise each week and you can’t avoid contract during games.

“We just want to make sure we don’t go backwards on that,” Garrett said Wednesday. “He’s been able to play really effectively in the games. That’s just the way we’re handling it now. Hopefully it gets better and we won’t have to do that throughout the year.”

–WR Dwayne Harris was limited Friday with a hip pointer and is questionable. The Cowboys are being cautious with him and remain hopeful he will play against the Chargers. Look for Cole Beasley to replace him as the primary punt returner.
