Modano Returns To Stars In Executive Role

The Dallas Stars kicked off the club’s 20th Anniversary by announcing several season-long initiatives in celebration of two decades inDallas.
The team officially announced the hiring of Stars great Mike Modano, who re-joins the club as Executive Advisor and Alternate Governor. Three-time Stanley Cup champion Mark Recchi has been hired to bolster the hockey operations department, while former Stars goaltender Marty Turco brings his unique talents to the club’s broadcasts.
“We are excited to begin the franchise’s 20th Anniversary season, where we celebrate our history in Dallas and strive to make new history on and off the ice,” said Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi. “With the additions of Mike Modano, Mark Recchi and Marty Turco, I’m confident we have the right staff in place to restore the franchise to the league’s upper echelon.”
The club is celebrating 20 years in North Texas by recognizing the greatest moments and players in franchise history, along with the growth of the game of hockey in the region.
Stars fans will have the opportunity to vote on the club’s 20th Anniversary Team on DallasStars.com. Over the course of theseason, the team will unveil the members of the Anniversary Team and honor them at Stars home games. The 20th Anniversary logo, which features the iconic Dallas skyline and American Airlines Center, will be worn on the team’s jerseys all season and
displayed at center ice at American Airlines Center.
The Stars 20th Anniversary season is presented by Dr Pepper, which has served as a primary sponsor of the club since the Stars franchise moved to North Texas in 1993.
Mike Modano, Executive Advisor and Alternate Governor
Modano, 42, returns to the Dallas Stars organization as an executive advisor and alternate governor after one of the most illustrious careers in NHL history. In his new role with the club, Modano will work on all initiatives relating to the Dallas Stars Ownership Advisory group, club broadcasts, and corporate partnership endeavors.
The Livonia, Michigan native is the all-time leading American-born scorer, amassing 561 goals, 813 assists totaling 1,374 points in 1,499 career NHL games. Aside from his impressive overall career stats, he is the Dallas Stars franchise leader in nearly every category, including games played (1,459), goals (557), assists (802), points (1,359),game-winning goals (92), power play goals (156), and short-handed tallies (29). He is also the franchise leader in playoff games played (174), goals (56), assists (87) and overall points (143).
The seven-time NHL All-Star, and 2012United States Hockey Hall of Fame inductee helped lead the Dallas Stars to two consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances, and was a key reason the team captured the 1999 Stanley Cup.
Selected by the Minnesota North Stars as the first overall pick in 1988, Modano announced his retirement from the NHL after 21 seasons on Sept. 23, 2011.
Mark Recchi, Advisor to Hockey Operations
Recchi, 44, begins his first season with the Dallas Stars, serving as an advisor to hockey operations.
A three-time Stanley Cup champion, Recchi appeared in 1,652 games in his NHL career, ranking him fourth all-time in league history. His1,533 career points (577G-956A) ranks 12th amongst all-time scoring leaders. Recchi is one of 10 players to win three Stanley Cups with three different teams (Pittsburgh, Carolina and Boston).
During his 22 seasons at right wing in the NHL, he skated for seven different clubs (Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Montreal, Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Boston) and appeared in seven NHL All-Star Games. Recchi posted three 100-plus point campaigns in his career, including a 123-point campaign (53G-70A) during the 1992-93 season.
Selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (67th overall) in the 1988 Entry Draft, he officially announced his retirement from the NHL after winning his third Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011.
Marty Turco, Broadcast Analyst
Turco, 37, returns to the Stars’ organization as a Broadcast Analyst.
An 11-year veteran of the NHL, Turco spent the first nine seasons of his career as a member of the Dallas Stars. From 2000-10, he appeared in 509 games with the Stars, compiling 262 wins, 11,420 saves and 40 shutouts, ranking him first in franchise history in each category.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native, played for three NHL clubs (Dallas, Chicago and Boston) and appeared in three NHL All-Star Games. Turco posted six-straight 30-or-more win seasons, including a 41-win campaign during the 2005-06 season. His 1.72 goals-against-average in 2002-03 set a then-NHL record, and is now good for third in the NHL’s modern era.
Selected by Dallas in the fifth-round (124th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Turco officially announced his retirement from the NHL following the conclusion of the 2011-12 season.
