More Manziel Troubles Come To Light

Johnny Manziel’s Heisman Trophy might never have come to pass in 2012 if Texas A&M had not lifted a school suspension before the season.

The quarterback considered transferring after he was arrested last June 29 in College Station’s bar district on misdemeanor charges and suspended by the university for the season, The Dallas Morning News reported. But Manziel won an appeal and the punishment was overturned by the dean of student life.

According to the story, Manziel would not have wanted to sit out another season with a suspension after redshirting as a freshman. That would have meant two years of game inactivity.

Going into the 2012 season, Manziel was a backup quarterback. But he emerged as the starter and not only won the Heisman but led Texas A&M to an 11-2 record and a Cotton Bowl victory in its first second as a member of the Southeastern Conference.

Manziel later called the offseason incident in which he was charged with fighting, failure to identify and possession of fake IDs a big mistake in his life.
