Mustangs Fall On Buzzer-Beater To Tulsa

DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs saw their four-game winning streak snapped in just one second when Chanice Scott hit her third 3-pointer of the game with one second left to give Tulsa a 42-39 win in Moody Coliseum Sunday.

Akil Simpson led the Mustangs (11-9, 4-3 Conference USA) with 13 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, and Christine Elliott added 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Samantha Mahnesmith went 4-for-4 at the foul line to finish with nine points and four rebounds. Scott scored a team-high 13 points for Tulsa (9-10, 4-4 C-USA).

The SMU defense forced Tulsa into 25 turnovers, grabbing 11 steals, but could only convert for 15 points off turnovers. Tulsa was held to just 16 field goals in 49 attempts, 32.7-percent, including four 3-pointers. The Mustangs scored just 15 field goals, two from 3-point range.

The Mustangs play their next two games on the road, facing Houston Thursday at 7 p.m. and Tulane on Sunday at 2 p.m. SMU returns to Moody Coliseum on Feb. 9 against Memphis at 7 p.m.
