Mustangs Post Olympic Qualifying Times At Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (SMU) – Several SMU swimmers and alums posted 2012 Olympic qualifying times at the Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix this weekend.

Recent graduate Denisa Smolenova took fifth in the 200-meter butterfly as she set a Slovakian national record with a time of 2:11.66. She finished fourth in the 100-meter butterfly, clocking in with a time of 59.31. Both marks were Olympic B qualifying times as well as personal-bests.

Freshman Isabella Arcila earned two B standards for the Olympic Games, finishing seventh in the 100-meter backstroke and 10th in the 200-meter backstroke, with times of 1:02.49 and 2:15.00, respectively. She came in 17th in the 50-meter backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 28.92.

Therese Svendsen recorded a B Olympic qualifying time with a mark of 1:02.18 in the 100-meter backstroke, finishing ninth. The graduate placed fifth in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 29.57.

Rangelova, Smolenova, Svendsen, Raminta Dvarisktye, and Mustang alum and volunteer assistant coach Martina Moracova will compete in the European Championships May 21-27 in Debrecen, Hungary. Arcila will compete in the Mel Zajac International Swimming Meet in Vancouver May 25-27.
