Mustangs Top Houston 70-54

The SMU Mustangs downed the Houston Cougars 70-54 Wednesday night at Moody Coliseum.  The Mustangs improved to 10-8, 2-2 in C-USA play.  SMU is 6-1 at home this season, 20-6 in the last 26 home games.

The Mustangs had 4 players in double figures, led by London Giles with 16.  Giles was 5 of 7 from 3-point range, a career-high.

Robert Nyakundi scored 15, all 3-point baskets.  His five 3-point field goals give him 232 for his career, 3rd in SMU history.  It is the 15th game this season Nyakundi has scored 10 or more points.

Shawn Williams and Jalen Jones each scored 11 points, with Williams adding 7 rebounds and 3 steals.  Jeremiah Samarrippas scored 9 and added 4 assists.

The Mustangs have held 16 of 18 opponents to 65 points or less in regulation.  The SMU defense came into the game ranked 2nd in C-USA by allowing only 59.5 points per game.

SMU travels to Memphis for a noon game on Saturday.  The Mustangs upset the Tigers last year at Moody Coliseum.
