Nadal, Serena roll at Wimbledon

World No. 1 and No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal, fresh off his French Open victory, showed no grass court weakness as he defeated Kei Nishikori in straight sets.  Nadal only lost serve once as he showed the form that took him to the Wimbledon title just 2 years ago.

Also advancing was No. 4 Andy Murray, the British hope, who struggled early but came alive and dominated the final two sets against Jan Hajek.

Robin Soderling (6), David Ferrer (9) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (10) each advanced to the 2nd Round.

The upset of the day was No. 8 Fernando Verdasco losing in the opening round to unseeded Fabio Fognini.

On the Ladies side, No. 1 Serena Williams out-grunted Michelle Larcher De Brito in straight sets.  No. 3 Caroline Wozniacki had little trouble against Tathiana Garbin, Agnieszka Radwanska (7) defeated Melinda Czink, Na Li (9) overcame Chanelle Scheepers, and Flavia Pennetta ousted Anabel Medina Garrigues.

French Open runner-up Samantha Stosur (6) was stunned by Kai Kenepi in straight sets.

Maria Sharapova (16) showed the form that made her a former Wimbledon champion by handily defeating Anastasia Pivovarova.
