No. 35 SMU W-Tennis: Improves To 12-3 With Sweep Of No. 52 Boise State

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (SMU) — The No. 35 SMU Women’s Tennis Team wrapped up an undefeated weekend on Sunday when it downed No. 52 Boise State, 4-0. The Mustangs finished their Las Vegas trip a perfect 3-0 and are now 12-3 this spring.

The team got off to a great start in doubles play, winning at all three lines.

The 73rd-ranked pair of Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova were first to finish as they downed Lauren Megale and Marlena Pietzuch 8-3 at the top doubles spot. The junior duo is now 10-3 on the season.

Edyta Cieplucha and Heather Steinbauer clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs with their 8-4 triumph over Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo at No. 2. Cieplucha and Steinbauer also improved to 10-3 in doubles play.

The third doubles spot saw Kris Roberts and Shahzoda Hatamova claim their first victory this spring as a team when they took out Sonia Klamczynska and Morgan Basil, 8-4.

SMU kept the pressure on in singles play and wasted little time in sweeping the Broncos.

Lesniak, the nation’s No. 8 singles player, cruised past Megale in singles, 6-0, 6-0. The junior standout is now 12-2 this spring at the No. 1 line and 30-5 overall. She has won her last eight contests and has notched 13 ranked wins.

Cieplucha inched the Mustangs closer to the victory when she claimed her 10th singles win this spring at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Klamczynska.

Steinbauer clinched the match for SMU moments later when she defeated Jasper at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4. The junior transfer is now 10-4 this spring and 14-8 overall.

”This was a great way to end the weekend,” said head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner. “Three matches in three days on the road is tough and I am really proud of how the team bounced back and focused each time out. We now can enjoy a little break and get some rest before we face a tough Baylor team.”

SMU returns to the courts Wednesday, March 23 when they travel South down I-35 to Waco to take on No. 9 Baylor. The match is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
