North Texas Softball Loses To OU

DENTON, Texas (2/29/12) – In the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and two runners on base, Maddelyn Fraley knocked a ball up the middle to break up a no-hitter and score a run for the Mean Green. Keilani Ricketts forced a groundout on the next batter to end the Mean Green threat and secure a 4-1 win for the No. 8 Oklahoma softball team.

The Sooners improve to 10-3, while the Mean Green falls to 5-8 this season.

Ricketts (5-3) was one out away from a perfect game when Brooke Foster came to the plate in the seventh inning. Foster drew a walk to break up the perfect game, and Lisa Johnson followed with a second straight walk. Fraley hit a ball back up the middle for the first Mean Green hit of the game. Foster scored from second off an error from the centerfielder.

Ricketts knocked in three of OU’s four runs. She posted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to put OU ahead, 2-0. She also added an RBI single in the sixth. Ricketts struck out 14 Mean Green batters.

Brittany Simmons (4-3) took the loss for the Mean Green. She gave up four runs off six hits. The Mean Green was hurt by two errors in the sixth inning, leading to one unearned run.

North Texas returns to action on Friday, March 2 when it travels to Tulsa, Okla. To compete in the Tulsa Classic.
