North Texas Women Lose To Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. – North Texas (4-5) could not complete the comeback on the road against Northern Colorado (5-3), falling, 75-69, despite a career-high 27-point explosion from junior transfer Janis Peterson.

“I thought the group that played in the second half did a nice job and worked very hard,” head coach Mike Petersen said. “I thought Janis played extremely well, and sometimes it just takes a little while for the light to come on. Today, her light came on, and she played great.”

North Texas came out flat in the first half, getting down by as many as 19 to the Bears. Senior Ash’Lynne Evans was the lone bright spot during the first frame for the Mean Green as she scored 10 points.

Although NT trailed Northern Colorado by 12 going into the second half, Coach Petersen made sure the unit was ready to play. Peterson, who had scored five in the first half, caught fire around the 17th minute, scoring 21 of the Mean Green’s 37 second-half points.

NT took its sole lead of the contest with 2:22 remaining, a one-point

advantage, before the Bears grinded out the last seven points to pull out the Mean Green.

Evans finished the contest with a season-high 16 points, her highest since December of 2011.

Peterson finished with four 3-pointers, six steals and four boards in her first-career start.

It is a quick turnaround for coach Petersen’s crew as NT moves an hour south to the Mile-High City to face off against former Sun Belt rival Denver on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. CST.
