North Texas Women Lose To UALR

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – It was a defensive battle as UALR held North Texas to its lowest offensive output of the year in a 52-39 win at the Jack Stephens Center. North Texas (14-14, 7-8) was held to its fewest points since 2009-10 when the Trojans held the Mean Green to only 39 points that year.

After taking an early lead, North Texas went on a drought of nearly nine minutes without a basket as UALR (16-12, 11-4) turned a one-point deficit into a 13-4 lead midway through the first half.

North Texas cut the lead down to five at 15-10, but UALR went on a 9-2 run to make it 24-12 with 2:37 left in the first half. North Texas scored the final five points of the half and went down only seven at 24-17 at the break.

North Texas made three separate runs at UALR in the second frame, cutting the Trojans lead down to three on three different occasions. The first came on a lay-up Kasondra Foreman to make it 26-23 with 16:24 left in the game. UALR responded back with five straight points.

Down 35-25, the Mean Green’s second run of 7-0 cut the UALR lead down to three points at 35-32 with 10:37 to play in the game. The final Mean Green run came with 9:02 left as North Texas cut the Trojans lead down to three points at 37-34 on a Sara Stanley basket. UALR again answered back with six straight points and pushed the lead back to nine at 43-34.

The Trojans were able to push the lead to double figures as Taylor Gault scored five straight to make it 48-36 UALR with six minutes left and ice the game for the Trojans.

North Texas plays its final regular season game of the season as they visit the Denver Pioneers Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
