DENVER – In the second and final game of its Colorado road swing, the Mean Green (5-5) crushed former Sun Belt rival Denver (1-9), 93-74.

“I was extremely pleased with the effort on the back end of a tough road trip to Colorado,” head coach Mike Petersen said. “The team showed tremendous effort in the second half of the Northern Colorado game, and their focus carried over into this win. It really showed tonight.”

NT erupted in the first half, scoring 47 points, its most since posting 44 in the first frame against Bethune-Cookman. Led by new-found scoring threat Janis Peterson, who opened the game with 10 points, the Mean Green pushed the ball effectively, leading to easy buckets.

NT ended the dominant opening half on an Alexis Hyder buzzer-beating bank shot as time expired.

North Texas didn’t lay off the gas in the second half, blowing the Pioneers out of their own building en route to a season-high 93 points.

Four players scored in double figures for North Texas. Hyder led the charge with a season-high 16 points.

Senior Ash’Lynne Evans posted her first double-double since her sophomore campaign with 14 points and 12 boards.

Peterson, who busted onto the scene in the Mean Green’s last game against Northern Colorado, continued her hot shooting, scoring 15 points in 26 minutes.

Junior Briesha Wynn rounded out the offensive attack with 10 points off the bench along with six rebounds.

North Texas returns home after four-straight road contests to face regional rival SMU on Saturday, Dec. 21, at noon in the Super Pit.
