Ogando pitches Rangers past Tigers

Alexi Ogando allowed just 2 hits in 7 innings as the Rangers topped the Detroit Tigers on Monday.  Detroit ace Justin Verlander pitched a complete game in the loss, allowing Texas to score just 2 runs in the 7th inning.

Darren Oliver and Neftali Feliz each pitched an inning as the Rangers got their second shutout in a row.

Ogando was still pitching strong when he was taken out after 7 because of a blister on his right index finger.  Rangers manager Ron Washington was pleased with the outing by Ogando, “Impressive, but that’s what he does.  He has good stuff and he has good command. He pounded the strike zone and didn’t change anything from the first to the seventh. He followed the game plan to a T. He was good today.”

The Texas offense was held at bay for 6 innings, with only Josh Hamilton getting a hit.  The Rangers came alive in the 7th inning, getting a walk and 3 hits for the only runs of the day.

The Rangers are 9-1 on the season.  Game 2 with Detroit is Tuesday.
