HOUSTON, Texas (SMU) – Dana Powell posted her 19th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 15 digs at Rice Sunday, but the Mustangs couldn’t take down the Owls, falling 3-0 in their final road test of the season.

The Mustangs came up just short in the first set of the match, trailing by two points, 21-19, before the Owls (16-12, 11-6 Conference USA) closed out the set for a 25-21 win and early advantage. After a 25-17 win in the second set, the Owls ended the match in the third with a 25-18 win.

In each of the three sets, SMU (13-16, 9-8 C-USA) was tied or in the lead around the midway point, but the Mustangs couldn’t hold off the late charges by the Owls down the stretch.

SMU will host UTEP in its next match in Moody Coliseum on Friday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs will face UCF on Sunday at 1 p.m. before concluding the regular season at home against conference-leader Tulsa on Nov. 26 at 2 p.m.
