Profar To Have Surgery

Texas Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar is facing another shoulder surgery that raises the possibility he will miss a second consecutive season.

Profar, who turns 22 on Friday, is scheduled for surgery on Monday. Dr. Keith Meister, the team physician, will perform the procedure.

There is no timetable for Profar’s return, but he’s not expected to be able to resume baseball activities until the summer.

Profar tried to rest and rehab the shoulder after doctors suggested surgery in September, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. Profar had aggravated a previous shoulder injury during spring training last year.

In 85 games mostly in a utility role for the Rangers when he last played in 2013, Profar batted .234 with six home runs and 26 RBIs. Considered one of baseball’s top prospects before the injuries, Profar made his Rangers debut at age 19 in 2012.
