The Texas Rangers showed that they were able to go the distance in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins as they went 13 innings before the Rangers claimed the series win.

The Rangers defeated the Twins 4-3 in a game that seemed very familiar to Saturday’s game where the Rangers trailed then came back and won in walk-off fashion in extra innings. With the win, the Rangers win the series 2-1 after beginning the series 0-1.

“It was huge,” Washington said. “We just kept battling. That ninth inning there, I think we showed the type of character that we have in that clubhouse. We didn’t quit. We tied the ballgame. Each inning after that we kept getting them out there and finally we got them in.”

Pitcher Roy Oswalt had a better outting in his fourth start as a Ranger. Oswalt only gave up 5 hits and a run in 5 2/3 innings of play. He also had three strikeouts for the game.

The Rangers had a 14-9 hitting advantage against the Twins, something that they hadn’t had all series. The hits helped rally a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning as Elvis Andrus and Michael Young helped bring in the three game tying runs to send the game to extra innings. Ian Kinsler came up strong in the 13th inning with a single that sent in the winning run. Michael Young was the standout for the Rangers with four hits and and 2 RBI’s in the win.

“In this game, sometimes you struggle. When you’re a certain age in this game, people want to say you’re through,” said Rangers manager Ron Washington. “But people here in Texas have been watching Michael for a long time. I wouldn’t bet against him. Tonight, he came out and showed you what he’s all about. Mike’s a class act. He can hit. He can play baseball. Tonight, he proved that.”

Twins pitcher Cole De Vries pitched an almost perfect game before being retired in seven innings. De Vries gave up 3 hits, no runs and had five strikeouts in the loss.

The Texas Rangers hope to keep up the momentum after the all star break as they take on the Seattle Mariners on Friday. First pitch in Seattle at 9:10 p.m.
