The Texas Rangers lost their 4th game in a row Saturday night at Los Angeles. With the 3-2 loss to the Angels, the Texas lead in the American League West divistion is down to just 3 1/2 games.
Starting pitcher Yu Darvish got his 3rd loss despited allowing just 5 hits in 6 1/2 innings. Darvish struck out 7, but was hurt by 3 Ranger fielding errors. Angels reliever Bobby Cassevah earned both a blown save and the win after starter C.J. Wilson pitched 6 scoreless innings against his former team. Rangers manager Ron Washington thought his pitcher deserved better, “He pitched a heckuva game,” Washington said. “I wish we could have supported him. We didn’t make the plays. Things happen in the game of baseball, but they’ve happened to us a little too often and we need to put a stop to that. It was defense that killed us.”
The Rangers only had 8 hits in the game, but none were with runners in scoring position.
Texas catcher Yorvit Torrealba was ejected from the game in the 7th inning after arguing a call at the plate which ultimately was the winning run.
Washington did not sugar-coat his team’s slide, “We’re a better baseball team than we’ve been showing. It’s up to them to show it.”
The Rangers will try to avoid the sweep in L.A. today at 2:35pm.
