The Texas Rangers finished strong hitting three runs in the fourth to beat the Boston Red Sox 5-3 in Arlington on Wednesday. With the win, Texas win the series 2-1 against Boston.

Derek Holland was the starting pitcher for the Rangers and gave up only three runs in 7 2/3 innings. Holland had an outstanding night as he threw seven strikeouts and only gave up five hits in the win. Holland improves his record to 7-5 for the season.

“I wanted to go out there and keep my pitch count,” Holland said. “I felt like I was going right after them. I feel really good. I went out there and gave my team a chance to win. I used all of my pitches and I thought everything was good. As the game progressed, my changeup got kind of firm, so I backed off that. But everything else was good. I made some mistakes and they made me pay for that, but my teammates came back and got us a win.”

The Rangers offense was strategic in their hitting in Wednesday’s game. The Rangers scored three runs in the fourth inning through a combination of singles, doubles and even a sacrifice bunt by Craig Gentry. There was only one home run of the night from Nelson Cruz in the eighth inning. Cruz had his 13th home run of the season and finished the night with a hit, a run and an RBI in the win.

“We executed tonight,” Washington said. “We had good execution tonight and we put a little pressure on their defense.”

The Rangers look to continue executing when they host the Chicago White Sox in Arlington on Friday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
