Rangers fall short of World Series bid

The Texas Rangers fell to the San Francisco Giants 3-1 in Game 5 of the 2010 World Series.  The Giants win the Series 4 games to 1.

In a rematch of Game 1, the Rangers sent Cliff Lee to face Tim Lincecum.  Just like the first time, Lincecum came out on top.  Both pitchers dueled for 6 innings, neither allowing the other team to score.  Then came the 7th.  Lee got in trouble early in the 7th and gave up a 3-run shot by Edgar Renteria, who was later named series MVP.  The Rangers tried to battle back, with Nelson Cruz hitting a solo home run off Lincecum.  Lee was done for the night and Lincecum only lasted one more inning before Brian Wilson came in to save the game for the Giants.

The Rangers, known as an offensive team, could not get anything going in this series, going 18 scoreless innings before Cruz’s home run.

Texas should still be happy with their season, winning their first ALDS, ALCS, and making their first ever appearance in the World Series.
