Rangers Hold Off Cubs

The Texas Rangers outlasted the Chicago Cubs 4-2 Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.  With the bases loaded and two outs, centerfielder Craig Gentry made a diving catch to preserve the game for the Rangers.

Starting pitcher Derek Holland went 7 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits to earn his first win of the year. In 3 starts, Holland has an ERA of 1.64.

The Rangers bullpen, which has not given up a blown save all season, struggled to get through the final inning.  Michael Kirkman got the first two batters out, then gave up a single and a walk.  Joe Nathan then gave up a single and a double, allowing two runs to score before hitting a batter to load the bases again.  Gentry’s diving catch to end the game earned the save for Nathan.

Adrian Beltre hit his second home run of the year as he went 2-for-4 at the plate.  The Rangers pounded out 9 hits in the game, but left 12 men on base.

Justin Grimm is scheduled to be on the mound for game 2 against the Cubs tonight.
