Rangers hold on to sweep Royals

The Texas Rangers built an 8-2 lead and then hung on to complete a sweep of the Kansas City Royals 8-7 on Sunday in Arlington.

Starting pitcher C.J. Wilson struck out 10 in 7 innings of work to get his 3rd win of the season.  Wilson gave up 4 runs on 8 hits.  Arthur Rhodes, at age 41, becomes the oldest Ranger pitcher to earn a save.  Rhodes finished the 9th inning after Brett Tomko gave up a 2-out, 3-run homer in the top of the 9th to narrow the Rangers lead to 8-7.

Andres Blanco, Mike Napoli and Adrian Beltre each hit solo home runs off Royals’ pitcher Bruce Chen.  It was Blanco’s 2nd career home run as he was starting at shortstop for the Rangers.

Michael Young got a single in the 5th inning to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

Texas continues it’s homestand Monday against Toronto.
