Rangers Lose 3rd Straight

The Texas Rangers lose their 3rd game in a row to the Boston Red Sox and drop to just 2 games ahead of the LA Angels for the AL West title.  In that 3 game stretch, Boston outscored Texas 30-7.

On Thursday night, it was Rangers starting pitcher Alexi Ogando who was roughed up by Boston.  Ogando lasted just 4 innings, giving up 6 runs on 4 home runs, 2 by Adrian Gonzalez.  Ogando drops to 12-6 on the season.

Scott Feldman came in for Ogando and pitched 4 shutout innings, giving up just 2 hits before Mike Adams came in for the final 3 outs.

The Rangers were lifeless at the plate, getting just 3 hits while striking out 10 times.  Texas manager Ron Washington had a simple explanation for the game, “The thing was they whipped our tails for three days,” Washington said. “We couldn’t stop them and we couldn’t get anything going offensively.”

The Rangers host the Angels for a key series beginning tonight at the Ballpark in Arlington.  Texas held a 7 game lead over the Angels on August 17th, but will need to win this series just to hold on.  The Rangers have lost 6 of the last 8 games.

Derek Holland (11-5) will start for the Rangers to open the series with the Angels.
