Rangers Lose 5th Straight

The Texas Rangers lose to the Minnesota Twins 5-1 due to a lack of creating runs, a problem that has lagged with the Rangers since the White Sox series. The loss marks the fifth consecutive loss for the Rangers.

“It’s part of the season. I’ve been through it before,” Rangers first baseman Mike Napoli said. “That’s not our offense. We believe we have a good offense and have the ability to score a lot of runs in a game. We’re going to battle. We have a lot of veterans in this clubhouse.”

Pitcher Martin Perez got his second start of the season and played six innings. Perez had three strikeouts but gave up six hits and four runs for the Rangers.

The Rangers offense only had three fewer hits than the Twins but couldn’t find a way to get runs. The teams only run came in the bottom of the sixth off of a Nelson Cruz single that allowed Adrian Beltre to score. Cruz finished with two hits and an RBI in the loss.

Twin’s pitcher Francisco Liriano had six strikeouts against the Rangers. Liriano finished with giving up five hits and a run in 6 2/3 innings of play in a strategic game that made sure the Rangers didn’t find their hitting streak anywhere in the game.

“We’ve hit a funk,” said Rangers manager Ron Washington. “We’re just going to fight. That’s all we can do. We still have a lot of baseball left. Right now, we’re certainly not playing the way we want to play. We’re going to show up tomorrow and battle again, hope that things go in our favor. We’ll keep working.”

The Rangers hope to turn their 0-1 series deficit around as they take on the Twins on Saturday. First pitch is at 6:15 p.m. in Minnesota.
