The Texas Rangers fell in the opening game of the road series against the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.  Starting pitcher Yu Darvish continued his downward slide as he allowed 6 runs in 6 2/3 innings during the Rangers 9-2 loss.

Darvish gave up 11 hits, including 7 doubles, and walked 4.  Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine summed up Darvish’s night, “He wasn’t very good, actually. His stuff was flat, I thought. He’s working on stuff, I guess. I don’t know.”

Darvish got little offensive help from his teammates.  Nelson Cruz was the only Ranger with multiple hits, going 3-for-4.  Adrian Beltre added a solo home run in the 9th inning, his 19th of the season.  The only other Texas run was generated by David Murphy, who singled in Cruz in the 2nd inning.

The Rangers will try to even the series on Tuesday when Ryan Dempster takes the mound against the Red Sox.  Texas is holding on to a 5-game lead in the AL West while Oakland and Los Angeles battle each other for 2nd place.
