Rangers Lose To Angels

The Texas Rangers enjoy being a part of history. Just maybe not in this way.

The Rangers were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels 15-8 in a historic sixth inning that kept the game from being close. The Rangers are now down 0-1 in the series following the loss.

The game was held close throughout the first five innings with the score being tied at 3 points a piece leading into the sixth inning. Kendrys Morales and the Angels quickly made sure that the game would not be close again. Morales made history against the Angels hitting his tenth home run of the season as well as hitting a grand slam in the same inning. Morales finished with an outstanding six RBI’s as well as two hits and two runs.

Rangers pitcher Roy Oswalt struggled in his first game back after suffering from lower back tightness. He gave up eight runs on 11 hits, three of the hits being home runs. Oswalt pitched 5 1/3 innings before being retired for the night.

“I felt pretty good, but it was the first time out there in 11 or 12 days and I just didn’t fall into sync,” Oswalt said. “I never got any downward plane. I kept getting everything up, up, up. It was just a lack of not throwing.”

The Rangers offense continued to fight hard but simply could not overcome the deficit after the sixth inning. Center fielder Josh Hamilton led the Rangers recording his 29th home run of the season in the fourth inning off of a fly ball to left field. Hamilton finished the night with three hits, two runs and an RBI in the comeback efforts.

Despite the loss, Rangers manager Ron Washington believes that his team was solid and without the sixth inning display by the Angels, the team would have been able to stay in the game. The Rangers were able to have three players hit home runs in the same night, something that they haven’t seen much in July.

“It was nice to see the offense going, we just couldn’t stop them,” Washington said.

The Rangers look to even the series against the Angels on Tuesday in Arlington. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
