Rangers Out Hit Tigers

Before a Rangers crowd of 43,379 that was centered around their newly acquired pitcher’s second start, the play of the Ranger’s left fielder turned into the highlight of the night.

The Texas Rangers (47-29) defeated the Tigers (36-39) by a score of 13-9 after a spectacular night by Rangers left fielder David Murphy. The Rangers win the series 2-1 and have now won their sixth consecutive series and look to continue when they take on the Oakland Athletics.

Rangers starting pitcher Roy Oswald (2-0) had an off game tonight as he allowed five runs on a career-high 13 hits in 6 innings. He allowed 5 earned runs to bump his ERA to 4.26.

Overall, the Rangers pitching staff allowed 17 hits in the game, but none of it mattered. This was David Murphy’s night.

Murphy had home runs in the second and fourth innings for the night. Murphy’s 4-5 hitting lead the Rangers in a game where the Tigers were taking advantage of the Rangers pitching. He also had a game-high in RBI’s (5) and runs (3).

Doug Fister (1-5) was the pitcher for the Tigers and gave up nine hits and nine runs in 4 1/3 innings. First baseman Prince Fielder gave the Tigers two of their nine runs.

The Rangers start their series against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday in Arlington. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
