Rangers overwhelmed at World Series

In their first ever appearance in the World Series, the Texas Rangers came out on the wrong side of an 11-7 game.  Starting pitcher Cliff Lee, who was 7-0 in playoff games coming into this one, was beat up early and often.  Lee gave up 8 hits in 4 2/3 innings, including a home run and 3 doubles.  7 of the Giants runs belonged to Lee.

The Rangers did score first, with Elvis Andrus scoring on a Vladimir Guerrero ball that hit Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum in the leg.  Andrus’ playoff hitting streak is now at 12 games.  Andrus also hit a sacrifice which scored Bengie Molina to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning.  The Giants tied the game in the 3rd.

The 5th inning is when things unravelled for Texas as San Francisco sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring 6.  Trailing 8-2, the writing was on the wall for the Rangers.

Texas did not give up easily, scoring 2 runs in the 6th and 3 more in the 9th, but it was not enough as they fell 11-7.

C.J. Wilson takes the mound for the Rangers in Game 2.
