The Oakland A’s struck fast against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night at the Ballpark.  The A’s scored 5 runs in the first inning off Rangers rookie starter Martin Perez on their way to a 9-3 win.

Rangers manager Ron Washington had to go to his bullpen in the first inning, needing a total of 6 pitchers to get through the game.

With the loss, the Rangers lead over the A’s for the AL West drops to 3 games.  The teams will conclude the four-game series today in Arlington.   “If we come back tomorrow and win the ballgame, they will leave here the same way when they got here,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said after the game. “We feel like we’re going to win tomorrow. We just didn’t get it done tonight.”

Texas could only generate 5 hits off Oakland starter Jarrod Parker, who struck out 8 in his 6 innings of work.

The Rangers will try to even the series today at 1:05pm with Matt Harrison on the mound.
