Rangers Roll Over Indians

The Texas Rangers used the long ball to rout the Cleveland Indians 9-1 Wednesday night in Arlington.  Mike Napoli, Josh Hamilton, and Ian Kinsler all hit home runs to account for 7 of the 9 runs.

Hamilton blasted a grand slam in the 4th inning, which capped off 8 runs in the frame.  It is the 3rd grand slam of Hamilton’s career.

The Rangers totaled 12 hits in the game, setting a new team record for the 7th straight game to have 12 or more hits.

Adrian Beltre went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, a new career-high.

Derek Holland earned his 14th win of the year with a 7 inning effort.  Holland allowed 1 run and struck out 6.  Holland has won 8 of his last 9 decisions.

The Rangers are holding on to a 3-game lead over the Angels in the AL West.  Manager Ron Washington knows the team needs to play well in the final stretch.  “Up and down the lineup, we’re getting it done,” said Washington. “Everybody is doing their part. The substitutes are doing their part, the regulars are doing their part, and it couldn’t happen at a better time of the year.”

The Rangers will try to sweep the series with Cleveland tonight at the Ballpark.
