Rangers Shut Out A’s

The Texas Rangers shut out the Oakland A’s 6-0 on a tragic night at the Ballpark in Arlington.  The game was overshadowed by the death of a fan who fell over the left field wall during the 2nd inning.  Click here for the Rangers statement on the accident.

Starting pitcher Derek Holland bounced back from his previous outing, when he did not even make it through the 1st inning, to throw a complete game shutout.  Holland only allowed 4 hits, while striking out 7 to improve to 7-4 on the season.  Rangers manager Ron Washington praised Holland for his efforts, “He was outstanding.  He pounded the strike zone from the first pitch, and never looked back. He stayed focused.”

Michael Young set a Rangers record for scoring, crossing the plate for the 959th time after a solo home run in the 5th inning.  Ian Kinsler, Mitch Moreland, and Endy Chavez all went 2-for-4 at the plate.  Josh Hamilton added 4 RBIs.

Texas holds a 1 game lead over the LA Angels in the AL West.  The Rangers host Oakland again tonight at the Ballpark.
