The Texas Rangers finished off their first series of the year with a 5-0 win over the Chicago White Sox Sunday night at the Ballpark in Arlington.  Texas wins the opening series 2-1.

Rangers starting pitcher Matt Harrison struck out 3 in 6 innings, allowing 4 scattered hits.  In Harrison’s words: “I was able to throw my offspeed pitches for strikes early in the game. It gave them something to swing at besides my fastball. They fouled a lot of pitches off early, but I just kept pounding the strike zone and making them put the ball in play.”

Relievers Mark Lowe, Robbie Ross, and Koji Uehara saw their first action of the year, each pitching scoreless innings to preserve the shutout.

David Murphy opened the scoring for the Rangers with a lead-off home run in the 3rd inning.  That was followed with a 2-run shot from Adrian Beltre in the 4th.  Josh Hamilton added a solo homer in the 6th inning.  Beltre scored the final Texas run on a double-play ball hit by Nelson Cruz in the 6th.

The Rangers begin a home series against conference foe Seattle tonight at the Ballpark.  First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
