The Texas Rangers split a double-header with the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. The Rangers won the first game 10-4, as starting pitcher Matt Harrison improved to 3-0. In the nightcap, Neftali Feliz gave up 3 runs and suffered the loss 3-2. The loss ended the Rangers 8-game win streak and dropped them to 12-3 on the season.
In the first game, the Rangers scored 8 runs in the first inning, putting the game out of reach before Detroit ever came up to bat. Every Rangers player that went to the plate scored a run in the game. Josh Hamilton hit a 3-run home run to open the scoring and Mike Napoli hit a solo shot in the 9th to finish it. It was the 5th straight game Napoli has hit a home run.
Harrison went 7 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs before Koji Uehara came on in relief to finish the game, giving up 1 run.
In the nightcap, the Rangers streak finally ended, as they could only generate 2 runs off Detroit ace Justin Verlander. Elvis Andrus and Michael Young each had 2 hits, but were the only Texas players in the top of the lineup to get a hit.
Feliz went 8 innings in the loss, giving up 3 runs, all in the 4th inning. Feliz struck out 6 and only allowed 3 hits.
The Rangers and Tigers will finish the series on Sunday, closing out the Texas road trip. The Rangers will host the Yankees beginning Monday at the Ballpark in Arlington.
