Rangers Swept In Chicago

The Texas Rangers were defeated by the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on Thursday in Chicago. The Rangers suffered their first sweep since June 2011 when they were swept by the New York Yankees. The White Sox made sure to outhit the Rangers in the series leading to an astounding 37-20 hitting advantage for the White Sox in the series.

“They played real good baseball the three days here and we just didn’t score enough runs, and they did,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “We pitched well, except for the first night, but tip your hat. They’re playing well and they’re swinging the bats well, and they’ve certainly always had good pitching. It just showed up against us this series, as far as putting runs on the board goes.”

Matt Harrison was the starting pitcher for the Rangers and had a solid outing only giving up two runs on eight hits before being retired in eight innings. Harrison had five strikeouts in the loss.

The Rangers explosive offense was shut down in the series and today’s game was no different. The offense had two hits for the game including a line drive shot by Adrian Beltre that led to an Ian Kinsler run in the fourth inning for the team’s only score of the game. Beltre finished with one hit and an RBI for the game.

Manager Ron Washington knows that the lack of offense was a key to the series loss but is not ready to worry about the team.

“Other than that first game, I thought we played pretty good baseball; we just didn’t put enough runs on the board,” Washington said. “I do think if you go check, they’ve lost three in a row before. I think if you go check, a lot of teams in the American League have lost three in a row. We’ll be fine.”

Starting Pitcher Jose Quintana led the White Sox defense only giving up two hits and a run in eight innings of play. Quintana had eight strikeouts for the game. Kevin Youkilis had yet another stellar performance against the Rangers recording his sixth home run. Youkilis finished with two hits, a run and an RBI in the White Sox win.

The Rangers look to move ahead and gain a series win as they take on the Twins in Minnesota. First pitch is on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
