The Texas Rangers welcomed their newest starting pitcher to the big leagues with a 6-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Nick Tepesch made his major league debut on the mound and earned his first win.  Tepesch went 7 2/3 innings, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits.  He struck out 5.  “He took charge. Tremendous makeup. He trusts his stuff, knows what he is capable of doing and never gets outside himself,” said Rangers manager Ron Washington.

Designated hitter Lance Berkman had another good night at the plate, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Ian Kinsler added a pair of hits, as did centerfielder Leonys Martin.

At 6-2, the Rangers are tied with Oakland for the lead in the AL West.  Texas will try to complete the sweep of the Rays today at the Ballpark in Arlington with Derek Holland on the mound.  The Rays will start left-hander Matt Moore.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm.
