Rangers Win Streak Stretches To A Dozen

The Texas Rangers won their 12th game in a row with a 7-0 shutout of the L.A. Angels in Anaheim Tuesday night.  The victory gives the Rangers a 5-game lead over the Angels in the AL West.  It is the 4th shutout for the Rangers in the last 6 games.

Pitcher Alexi Ogando went 8 scoreless innings, giving up just 4 hits for his 10th win of the year.  Ogando struck out 5 on the evening.  Darren Oliver pitched the final inning to seal the game.

The Rangers pounded out 13 hits, including home runs by Endy Chavez, Josh Hamilton, and Adrian Beltre.  Texas scored in the first inning to give Ogando the lead early.  Chavez’ 2-run homer made the score 5-0 in the 8th inning before Hamilton and Beltre blasted back to back solo shots in the 9th.  Rangers manager Ron Washington stated the importance of getting the early lead, “When you’re on the road, that’s what you do, get out first and get a lead.  The only thing I’m worried about is that we continue to play the type of baseball that we’re capable of, and tonight we did.  That’s what I’m focused on.”

The Rangers and A’s continue tonight in Anaheim.
